The Downtown Section

The attractive and historic downtown section of Venice is pedestrian-friendly and features a wealth of interesting retail stores and appealing restaurants. Among the different types of eateries located in downtown Venice are delis, cafes, bakeries, coffee shops, bars, pizza parlors, bistros, wine bars, a chocolate shop as well as French, American, Italian, and BBQ restaurants.

A farmers’ market is held in Venice’s downtown section every week and several arts and crafts fairs are held there throughout the year.

City Government

Venice has a council/town manager form of local government with a mayor in place. The police department has more than 60 employees including 45 sworn officers. Overall, Venice is a quiet community with a low crime rate. An excellent public school system is featured in Venice with four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school situated there. Several private and charter schools are also located in Venice.

Recreation in Venice, FL

More than 15 parks are located throughout Venice, which also include a fishing pier and several public beaches (with free parking). Almost every night live music is provided on the main beach in Venice. There are several gated golf courses and golf course communities in Venice, as well as a public golf course. Bicycle and walking trails are provided.

A major attraction in Venice is Waterway Park, which is a waterfront park that is almost 10 linear miles in length. Biking trails, picnic areas, and playgrounds run the length of the park. Throughout the year there are many outdoor activities and special community events held in Venice, including the family friendly Shark’s Tooth Festival.
